About Parchís

Parchís is Spain's version of the cross-and-circle race that began in India as pachisi, and it is known as Parcheesi in the US. The Spanish game has its own character: one die instead of two, a 5 to leave the nest rather than a 6, and bonus moves that reward captures and finished pawns. If you searched for parchís online gratis, parchisi or a parchis board game online, this is that game with the Spanish rules.

The board is a cross with four coloured nests in the corners and a shared circuit numbered 1 to 68. Yellow leaves the nest on square 5, blue on 22, red on 39 and green on 56. Twelve squares are marked as safe, including those four exits, and no pawn can be captured on them. After a full lap each colour turns into its own seven-square corridor and then into the centre.

Two things make it more tactical than ludo. Two pawns of one colour on the same square form a barrier that nobody can pass, not even their owner, and a 6 forces you to open one. Bonuses also change the race: a capture gives 20 extra squares and a pawn reaching home gives 10, each taken in full by a single pawn.

The server rolls the die and moves that are not legal are never offered. If you cannot move, the roll passes on automatically. Parchis for 2 players seats yellow against red on opposite arms; three or four players fill the remaining colours, with bots for any empty seat.

How to play Parchís

  1. Each player has four pawns in a nest. Roll one die on your turn. A 5 must be used to bring a pawn out onto your exit square if you still have one in the nest and the exit has room.
  2. Otherwise move one pawn forward by the number rolled, anticlockwise round the 68-square circuit. If no pawn can make the move, the roll is lost.
  3. A 6 earns another roll. When you have no pawns left in the nest, a 6 moves 7 squares. A third 6 in a row is not played: the pawn you moved last goes back to the nest, unless it is already in your corridor or home, and your turn ends.
  4. A circuit square holds at most two pawns. Two pawns of the same colour form a barrier that no pawn may pass or land on. If you roll a 6 while holding a barrier you must move one of its pawns when that is possible.
  5. Landing on a single rival pawn on an unmarked square captures it and sends it to its nest. You then move any one of your pawns 20 squares. On the twelve safe squares pawns of different colours share the square instead.
  6. If your exit square is full when you roll a 5 and at least one pawn on it is a rival's, your new pawn captures the rival that arrived last.
  7. After 64 squares a pawn turns into its own corridor of seven squares, which has no captures and no barriers. Home must be reached by exact count, and a pawn reaching home lets you move another pawn 10 squares.
  8. A bonus of 20 or 10 must be used in full by one pawn. If none of your pawns can move that far, the bonus is lost. The first player with all four pawns home wins.

Parchís tips and strategy

  • Only one roll in six is a 5, so keep at least two pawns on the circuit. A single runner that gets captured can leave you rolling for a 5 for many turns.
  • Build a barrier a few squares in front of a rival's exit or just ahead of pawns chasing you. It protects both pawns and stalls everything behind it until you roll a 6.
  • Count before you stop on an unmarked square. A rival up to 6 squares behind can hit you with the exact number, and one that has emptied its nest moves 7 on a 6 instead.
  • Plan the bonus before you capture. The 20 squares are best spent carrying a second pawn onto a safe square or into the corridor, and they are wasted if no pawn has 20 clear squares ahead.
  • Near home, keep a spare pawn on the circuit to absorb rolls that do not fit, and remember that the 10 you earn for a finished pawn needs a pawn with room to use it.

Parchís FAQ

Can I play parchis online with friends?

Yes. Create a private room, share the room code and your friends join the same board from their own phone or computer. A room can hold two, three or four players.

Is this parchís online gratis, with no download?

Yes. The game is free and runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to install, and Quick Match seats bots when no other players are waiting.

How does parchis work with 2 players?

With two players, yellow and red sit on opposite arms of the board, so each has half a lap of open track before meeting the other. The rules are the same, and games are shorter because fewer pawns are hunting yours.

What number do you need to start in parchís?

A 5. It must be used to bring a pawn out of the nest whenever you have one there and your exit square has room. A 6 does not release a pawn; it gives you another roll.

What is a barrier and when must I open it?

A barrier is two pawns of the same colour on one circuit square. No pawn can pass it or land on it. When you roll a 6 you must move one of the two pawns if either has a legal move.

What is the difference between parchís and ludo?

Ludo uses a 52-square track and needs a 6 to start. Parchís uses 68 squares, starts on a 5, has barriers that block the track, and pays bonus moves of 20 for a capture and 10 for a pawn reaching home.

How many players do I need for Parchís?

Parchís supports 2 to 4 players. If a full table of real people isn't ready when you queue, MultiplayerHub fills the empty seats with bots instantly so the match starts without waiting.

Do I need to download anything or sign up to play Parchís?

No. Parchís runs entirely in your browser tab — no app install, no account, no email required. Pick a name and you're matched within seconds.

Is Parchís really free?

Yes — Parchís and every other game on MultiplayerHub is free to play, supported by ads rather than a paywall or loot boxes.

Can I play Parchís with a specific friend instead of strangers?

Create a private room from the Parchís page to get a shareable room code, or enter a code a friend already sent you to jump straight into their table.
