About Drift Rally
Drift Rally is an original arcade racer, so think of it by type: a top-down multiplayer car race with a handling model built around sliding. You see the whole car from above and follow it around a closed loop of tarmac with fast sweepers, tighter kinks and grass on both sides.
The handling is simple to describe and takes a while to master. Normally the tyres grip and the car goes where it points. Hold the handbrake and the grip drops away, so the car keeps travelling along its old line while the nose rotates into the corner. Release at the right moment and you exit already facing down the next straight. The steering also has less bite at very low speed, so momentum is everything. Put a wheel on the grass and drag rises sharply until you get back to the track.
Twelve checkpoints around the lap must be passed in order, which means there is no way to cut across the infield. Cars are solid and bump each other, and the game records your best lap as well as your finishing place. A full race takes around three minutes. You can run it solo to learn the circuit, which makes it a decent time trial as well as a quick race for a group.
How to play Drift Rally
- Goal: be the first car to complete 4 laps of the circuit.
- Accelerate with W and reverse with S. Steer with A and D.
- Hold Space for the handbrake. It slows the car and loosens the grip so the car slides, which is how you drift.
- Stay on the tarmac. Driving on the grass adds heavy drag and costs you speed.
- Pass every checkpoint in order. A lap only counts once all twelve have been reached, so shortcuts across the middle do not work.
- Cars collide and push each other, so leave room or use it to defend your line.
- The first driver over the line after four laps wins, and the rest are ranked in finishing order. If the race timer runs out, anyone still driving is placed by distance covered.

Drift Rally tips and strategy
- Start the slide before the corner, not in it. Turn in, tap the handbrake while the car is still on the straight, and let it rotate as you reach the bend.
- Keep handbrake use short. It is also a brake, so holding it through a whole corner throws away the speed you were trying to carry.
- Take a wide entry and a tight exit. Finishing the corner near the inside lets you get on the throttle in a straight line sooner.
- Grass is slower than a cautious corner. If a slide is going wrong, straighten up and lose a little time instead of running off.
- On lap one, stay out of the pack through the first bends. A bump from behind at the wrong angle can send you onto the grass.
