About Math Duel
Timed arithmetic drills have been used in classrooms for generations, and a head-to-head race makes them far more engaging than a worksheet. Math Duel is a multiplayer math game built on one fairness rule: problem number one is identical for every player, as is problem number two, and so on. Nobody gets a lucky draw of easy sums.
Difficulty rises as you go. The first five problems are addition and subtraction with small numbers. Every five correct answers move you up a level, bringing in multiplication and then division, with larger numbers at each of the five levels. Every answer is a whole number, subtraction never goes below zero, and division always comes out evenly, so there are no decimals or remainders to type.
A correct answer is worth 10 points at the first level and 5 more at each level above it, up to 30. Answering correctly several times in a row adds a streak bonus of 2 points per step, capped at 16. A wrong answer keeps you on the same problem and resets the streak. You see opponents' scores and streaks live but never their answers. It is a good fit for students practising times tables, adults keeping their mental math sharp, and teachers who want a quick class contest.
How to play Math Duel
- The objective is to score more points than anyone else before the 90 second timer ends.
- After a short countdown, every player sees the first problem. All players receive the same problems in the same order.
- Type the answer on the on-screen number pad or a keyboard and press Enter to submit it.
- A correct answer scores points and brings up the next problem straight away.
- A wrong answer leaves you on the same problem and resets your streak. No points are taken away.
- Every five correct answers raise the difficulty level, which adds harder operations and bigger numbers and increases the points per problem.
- When time runs out, the highest score wins. Ties go to the player with more problems solved, then fewer wrong answers.

Math Duel tips and strategy
- Accuracy first. A wrong answer costs your streak bonus, which can be worth up to 16 points on every following problem, far more than the second saved by rushing.
- Get through the opening addition problems quickly. They are worth only 10 points each, and the 30 point problems only appear after twenty correct answers.
- For two-digit addition, add the tens first and then the ones. For subtraction, count up from the smaller number instead of borrowing.
- Know your times tables up to 12, with a few extras up to 15 for the top level. Division here is multiplication in reverse, so the same facts cover both.
- Keep your hand on the number keys and submit with Enter. Moving between a mouse and the keyboard wastes time on every problem.
Math Duel FAQ
What kind of math is in Math Duel?
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with whole numbers. Early problems use numbers up to 12, and the hardest level reaches two-digit addition and subtraction up to 99 and multiplication up to 15 by 15.
Do all players get the same questions?
Yes. The problem sequence is the same for everyone in the match, so your tenth problem matches every opponent's tenth problem. The player who answers faster and more accurately simply gets further through the list.
What happens if I type a wrong answer?
You stay on the same problem and can try again at once. No points are deducted, but your streak resets to zero, removing the combo bonus until you build it back up.
Is Math Duel suitable for kids?
Yes. Problems begin with simple addition and subtraction and only get harder as the player answers correctly, so each child reaches a level that matches their ability. Answers are always whole numbers.
Can two players play Math Duel against each other?
Yes. Share a room code for a private two player race, or play with up to six people. Solo practice is also possible, and public games add bots when there are not enough players.
How many players do I need for Math Duel?
Math Duel supports 1 to 6 players. If a full table of real people isn't ready when you queue, MultiplayerHub fills the empty seats with bots instantly so the match starts without waiting.
