Speed alone does not win. A grid only counts when it is complete and fully correct. If you fill every cell and something is wrong, you are not knocked out. You simply keep fixing cells while the clock runs. A round lasts at most seven minutes, and if nobody finishes, the player with the most correct cells takes it. It is a good choice for puzzle fans who want a fair, friendly contest, and for classrooms or families where everyone solves the same grid.

How to play Sudoku Sprint

1. The goal is to be the first player to fill the whole grid with a correct solution.
2. Every player gets the same 9 by 9 puzzle with 34 given numbers. The given numbers are locked and cannot be changed.
3. Click an empty cell, then click a digit on the number pad or type 1 to 9 on your keyboard.
4. Each row, each column and each 3 by 3 box must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each, with no repeats.
5. Press Backspace or 0 to clear a cell. You can change your own entries as often as you like.
6. You can see how far along each opponent is, but not the numbers they have entered.
7. The first player to complete a fully correct grid wins immediately. A full grid that contains a mistake does not win, and you may keep correcting it.
8. If nobody has solved the puzzle after seven minutes, the player with the most correct cells wins.

Sudoku Sprint tips and strategy

• Start with the rows, columns and boxes that have the most given numbers. With only two or three gaps left, each one can usually be filled at once.
• Scan one digit at a time. Pick a number, find every place it already appears, and look for boxes where only one cell is left for it.
• Do not guess to keep up with a fast opponent. A wrong digit early on spreads into other cells and costs far more time to find later than it saved.
• A rival's progress bar shows cells filled, not cells that are right. Someone at ninety percent may still have errors to hunt down, so keep your own pace.
• If the clock is nearly out, fill in the cells you are certain about. Unfinished rounds are decided on correct cells, and blanks count for nothing.
