About Road Hopper
Road Hopper is a frog crossing race in the tradition of arcade classics, similar to Frogger, with one big change: you are racing other people. Everyone starts on the same strip of grass at the bottom and the first frog to reach the top wins.
The board is a single screen, thirteen rows tall. The lower half is a road with five lanes of cars and two-tile trucks. A grassy median in the middle is the only safe place to stop and think. The upper half is a river with five rows of logs. Next-door rows flow in opposite directions, and a log carries you sideways while you stand on it. Stepping into open water or being carried off the edge of the board ends your run.
Nobody is eliminated. A frog that is hit or falls in lies flat for about half a second and then restarts from its own spot on the start line, so a mistake costs time, not the race. Rounds are capped at ninety seconds, which keeps the game fast and makes it a good pick for large groups and younger players.
How to play Road Hopper
- The goal is to be the first frog to reach the goal row at the top of the board.
- After the 3-2-1 countdown, hop one tile at a time with the arrow keys or WASD, or swipe on a touch screen.
- Cross the five road lanes without being hit. A car or truck sends you back to your starting spot after a short pause.
- The grassy median halfway up is safe. Use it to wait for an opening in the river.
- Cross the five river rows by hopping from log to log. Landing in open water sends you back to the start.
- A log carries you along with it. If it takes you off the side of the board, you go back to the start as well.
- The first frog onto the goal row wins. If nobody gets there in ninety seconds, the frog that travelled furthest wins.

Road Hopper tips and strategy
- Watch a lane for one full cycle before you step into it. Traffic and logs move in fixed repeating patterns, so the gap you just saw will come round again.
- Stop on the median every time. It costs a second and lets you line up your first two river hops instead of guessing.
- On the river, hop forward as soon as the next log overlaps yours. Waiting on a log only drifts you towards the edge of the board.
- You are safe in mid-hop. Hazards only count on the tile where you land, so commit to a jump once you have started it.
- If time is running out and nobody has finished, the result is decided by the furthest row each frog ever reached. One brave push late on can win the round.
Road Hopper FAQ
How many players can play Road Hopper?
Between two and eight frogs can race at once, all on the same screen. Frogs do not block each other, so a crowded start line is not a problem. Bots can fill empty places when fewer than eight people join a round.
Do you lose lives in Road Hopper?
No, there are no lives. Getting hit by a vehicle or falling in the river puts you back at the start after roughly half a second, and you can try again as many times as the ninety-second clock allows.
What happens if no one reaches the top?
When the ninety seconds are up, frogs are ranked by the furthest row they reached at any point in the round. Being sent back to the start does not erase your best progress, so the frog that got closest to the goal wins.
Can I play Road Hopper on a phone?
Yes. On touch devices you swipe in the direction you want to hop, one swipe per tile. The whole board fits on a single screen without scrolling, so you can see every lane of traffic and every log at once.
Why did my frog die while standing on a log?
Logs keep moving and carry you with them. If you stay on one too long it will take you past the left or right edge of the board, which counts the same as falling in. Keep hopping forward to stay safe.
