About Brick Battle

Brick Battle is what you get when a classic brick breaker meets a paddle duel. One player defends the bottom of the arena and the other defends the top. The wall between you has thirty bricks in five rows, and whoever touched the ball last with their paddle gets the points when a brick breaks.

Bricks are not all equal. The two outer rows are worth one point each and break in a single hit. The rows behind them are worth two. The centre row is the hardest to reach, takes two hits and pays three points. A clear lane runs down each side of the wall, so the ball can always travel from one end to the other and neither player is left waiting. Let the ball slip past your baseline and your opponent collects two bonus points.

The ball speeds up a little with every paddle hit, and moving your paddle as you strike adds spin, so long rallies get harder to control. The first player to thirty points wins, and a match never lasts more than two minutes. It suits anyone looking for a quick head-to-head arcade game.

How to play Brick Battle

  1. The goal is to reach 30 points before your opponent, or to be ahead when the match ends.
  2. Slide your paddle along your baseline with the mouse or pointer, or with A and D or the left and right arrow keys.
  3. Bounce the ball into the brick wall. When a brick breaks, the points go to the player whose paddle last touched the ball.
  4. Outer-row bricks score 1 point, the next rows score 2, and the centre row scores 3 but needs two hits.
  5. If the ball passes your paddle and crosses your baseline, your opponent scores 2 bonus points and the ball is served again towards you.
  6. The ball gets faster with each paddle hit, and a moving paddle puts spin on it.
  7. The match ends when a player reaches 30, when every brick is gone, or after two minutes. The higher score wins, and equal scores are a draw.

Brick Battle tips and strategy

  • Hit the ball with the edge of your paddle to send it off at a sharp angle. Angled shots cut into the wall, while flat shots tend to run straight down a side lane.
  • A missed ball gives away two points, the same as a second-row brick. When the rally gets fast, keeping the ball in play matters more than aiming.
  • The three-point centre bricks need two hits. If your opponent has already cracked one, finishing it gives you all three points.
  • Move your paddle in the direction you want the ball to go as you make contact. The spin makes your return harder to read.
  • Return to the middle of your baseline after each hit. The ball can come back off the wall at an awkward angle and you need to reach both corners.
