About Air Hockey
Air hockey is the arcade table everyone ends up at: a slick surface, a puck that barely slows down, and two players trying to bank it into a slot at the far end. The online version here lays the table out in landscape, with your goal on one short side and your opponent's on the other. The puck slides almost without friction and rebounds off every rail, so a shot that misses the goal mouth comes straight back into play.
Your mallet follows your pointer or finger, but it glides at a capped speed instead of teleporting. That matters, because the puck picks up the momentum of whatever hits it. A mallet moving quickly through the puck produces a real slam, and a stationary one only deflects. You are confined to your own half, just as on a real table, so defence means getting back in front of your goal and attack means winding up from behind the puck.
It is one of the simplest games on this site to learn and a good pick for a quick multiplayer break. Matches take about three minutes, the controls work on a phone or with a mouse, and the only skills that count are angles and positioning. If you want air hockey with friends without anyone installing anything, share a room code and play.
How to play Air Hockey
- Goal: be the first player to score 7 goals.
- Drag to glide your mallet anywhere inside your own half of the table. WASD or the arrow keys also move it. You cannot cross the centre line.
- Each point starts with a brief face-off pause, then the puck is nudged into play from the centre.
- Strike the puck with your mallet to send it toward the opposite goal. The faster your mallet is moving at contact, the harder the shot.
- The puck bounces off the top and bottom rails and the end walls. Only the goal mouth in the middle of each end is open.
- When the puck enters your opponent's goal you score one, and play resets with another face-off.
- First to 7 wins. If the match clock runs out first, the higher score wins and a level score is a draw.

Air Hockey tips and strategy
- Hold a home position a little in front of your goal, centred on the mouth. Chasing the puck into a corner leaves the goal wide open for the rebound.
- Bank your shots. A puck sent off the top or bottom rail arrives at an angle that is far harder to read than a straight drive.
- Swing through the puck from behind it. Shot power comes from mallet speed, so a short run-up beats a push from a standstill.
- Do not swat at a fast incoming puck. Simply placing the mallet in its path deflects it safely, and you can attack the next one.
- Watch your opponent's mallet, not only the puck. When they drift to one side, shoot at the other half of the goal mouth.
Air Hockey FAQ
How many goals win a game of air hockey here?
Seven. The first player to put the puck in the opposing goal seven times wins the match. There is also a clock in the background, and if it expires the player with more goals is declared the winner.
Can I play air hockey online against the computer?
Yes. Matchmaking looks for a human first, and if nobody is waiting a bot takes the other end of the table. The bot has a built-in reaction delay, so quick bank shots off the rails are the best way to beat it.
Can my mallet cross the centre line?
No. As on a real air hockey table, each mallet stays in its own half. You can move right up to the line to meet the puck early, but the far half belongs to your opponent.
Does air hockey work on a phone?
It does. The game runs in a mobile browser and you drag the mallet with a finger. On a computer you can use a mouse or the keyboard, and both players see the same table whatever device they are on.
How long does a match take?
Most matches are over in about three minutes. Goals come quickly because the puck keeps nearly all of its speed, and a match clock makes sure a cagey, defensive game still finishes.
How many players do I need for Air Hockey?
Air Hockey supports exactly 2 players. If a full table of real people isn't ready when you queue, MultiplayerHub fills the empty seats with bots instantly so the match starts without waiting.
Do I need to download anything or sign up to play Air Hockey?
No. Air Hockey runs entirely in your browser tab โ no app install, no account, no email required. Pick a name and you're matched within seconds.
Is Air Hockey really free?
Yes, no catch โ Air Hockey is ad-supported rather than pay-to-play, so there is no subscription or in-game purchase to unlock anything.
Can I play Air Hockey with a specific friend instead of strangers?
Create a private room from the Air Hockey page to get a shareable room code, or enter a code a friend already sent you to jump straight into their table.
