About Head Ball

Big head football is a browser genre of its own. Take everything complicated out of soccer, such as teams, passing and offside, and keep the fun part: two players, one ball and a scramble in front of goal. The oversized heads are not just a joke, since the head is your main tool for meeting a ball that spends most of its time in the air.

In this version the ball obeys gravity and bounces off the ground, the ceiling, the walls above each goal and the crossbars. You have two ways to play it. Running or jumping into the ball heads it, a soft touch that pops it up and carries some of your own momentum. Swinging a boot is a much harder, flatter strike that lifts the ball forward toward the far goal, with a short cooldown between swings. Players are solid, so you can also get your body between your opponent and the ball.

A goal counts when the ball drops under the crossbar and into the net at either end. After each goal both strikers return to their starting spots and the ball is dropped at the centre. The first to five wins, and if the two and a half minute clock runs out first, whoever leads takes it. Matches last about three minutes, and it is a good 2 player football game for a quick one-on-one.

How to play Head Ball

  1. Goal: score 5 goals before your opponent does, or lead when the clock runs out.
  2. Run left and right with A and D, and jump with W.
  3. Press S or click to swing your boot. A kick strikes the ball hard and low, and has a short cooldown.
  4. Run or jump into the ball to head it. Headers are softer and tend to lift the ball.
  5. The ball bounces off the ground, the ceiling, the crossbars and the walls above the goals, so it stays in play until someone scores.
  6. You score when the ball goes under the crossbar into your opponent's net. Play then restarts with a drop at the centre.
  7. First to 5 goals wins. If time expires, the higher score wins and equal scores are a draw.

Head Ball tips and strategy

  • Defend on your feet. Jumping early leaves you in the air while a low ball rolls underneath, so hold your ground until the ball is definitely coming in high.
  • Kick when the ball is at boot height and in front of you. The swing sends it forward and upward, which often lobs an opponent who has come too close.
  • Use headers for control. A gentle header sets the ball up in front of you for a kick on the next bounce.
  • Stay between the ball and your own goal. If your opponent gets goal side of you, a single touch is usually enough for them to score.
  • Watch the crossbar rebounds. A ball that hits the bar drops straight back into the goalmouth, and the player who reacts first gets a tap-in or a clearance.

How do you score in Head Ball?

Get the ball under the crossbar and into the net at your opponent's end. Either a kick or a header can do it. A ball that hits the wall above the goal or the bar itself bounces back out and stays live.

How many goals do you need to win?

Five. The first striker to reach five goals wins at once. If nobody gets there before the match clock expires, the player in front wins, and a level score at the whistle is recorded as a draw.

What is the difference between a header and a kick?

A header happens whenever your striker's head meets the ball, and it gives a softer touch that carries your movement. A kick is a deliberate swing of the boot that hits harder and flatter, but you must wait briefly before swinging again.

Are there power-ups or special shots?

No. There are no power-ups, special moves or character stats here. Both strikers are identical, and matches are decided by timing, positioning and reading the bounce of the ball.

Can I play head soccer against the computer?

Yes. If matchmaking cannot find a human opponent, a bot plays the other striker. It reacts with a slight delay, as a person would, so quick changes of direction and first-time kicks are effective against it.
