About Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball strips the indoor game down to sand, a net and a handful of players, and this browser version strips it down a little further so that it works as a fast arcade match. You see the court from the side. Your team owns one half, the net stands in the middle, and the ball flies in a proper arc under gravity, floating enough that you can read it and get underneath.
The shot you play depends on how and where you meet the ball. A low, late touch pops a soft bump just over the tape. Contact at mid height sends a looping set deep into the other court. Jump and swing at a high ball and you drive a hard spike downward. One simplification is worth knowing: every touch sends the ball straight back over the net, so there is no three touch build-up as in the real sport. Each contact is a decision about which shot to hit, not a pass to a teammate.
With two players it is a duel of positioning. With four, each side splits into a blocker near the net and a digger at the back, so every ball has an obvious owner. Scoring is rally point to 21, win by two, and a match runs about four minutes. It is an easy game to pick up for anyone who wants a 2 player volleyball game with a friend or a quick doubles match.
How to play Beach Volleyball
- Goal: be the first side to 21 points with a two point lead.
- Move along your half of the court with A and D or the arrow keys, and jump with Space or Up. You cannot cross the net.
- Swing as the ball reaches you to hit it. Low contact plays a soft bump, mid height a looping set, and a high or jumping contact a hard spike.
- Every hit must clear the net. A shot that strikes the net is a fault against whoever hit it last.
- If the ball lands on your side of the sand, the other side wins the rally. Every rally scores a point, whoever served.
- The side that lost the previous point serves the next one, after a short reset.
- At 20 all, play goes on until one side leads by two, with a cap at 30. If the match clock expires first, the side ahead wins and level scores are a draw.

Beach Volleyball tips and strategy
- Get under the ball early. Your shot type comes from contact height, and arriving late leaves you with nothing but a weak bump.
- Save the jump for balls you can reach at the top of your leap. A mistimed jump leaves you in the air while the ball drops behind you.
- Mix soft bumps at the net with deep sets. An opponent standing back for a spike cannot reach a ball that only just clears the tape.
- In 2v2, trust the split. The front player takes anything short and blocks, the back player takes anything deep. Two players chasing the same ball leave half the court empty.
- Do not spike from too far back. A hard, flat ball hit from deep is the shot most likely to end in the net and hand over the point.

Can two people play this volleyball game?
Yes. The game runs as 1v1 with two players and as 2v2 with four. In a two player match each of you covers a whole half alone, which makes placement and recovery more important than raw power.
What score do you play to?
Matches go to 21 points and you must win by two. If it reaches 20 all, play continues until one side is two ahead, up to a hard cap of 30. Every rally is worth a point.
How do I spike the ball?
Jump and swing so that you meet the ball high, ideally near the top of your leap and close to the net. High, committed contact produces the fast downward spike, while the same swing at a low ball only gives a bump.
Why does the ball go over the net on the first touch?
This version uses one touch per return to keep rallies quick and readable in a browser. Instead of passing between teammates, you choose between bump, set and spike on every contact, and the other side has to answer straight away.
What happens if the ball hits the net?
The net is solid from the tape to the sand. If a shot fails to clear it, the rally ends and the point goes against the player who last touched the ball, so low drives from deep are risky.
