About Smash Badminton
Badminton is one of the most played racket sports in the world, with a huge following in India, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Denmark and the UK. Smash Badminton brings singles play to a simple side-on court. One player owns the left half, the other owns the right, and the net stands in the middle.
The shuttle is the star of this version. It leaves the racket very fast, loses speed almost immediately, hangs at the top of its flight and then drops steeply, just as a real feathered shuttle does. Where you meet it decides the shot. Jump and hit it high and you get a fast downward smash. Hit it low and it becomes a lofted clear to the back of the court. Take it low and close to the net and it turns into a soft drop that barely crosses the tape.
Scoring follows the modern rally system. Every rally is worth a point no matter who served, games go to 21, and you must win by two. If the score stays close, the game is capped at 30. A match takes about three minutes, which makes it a good fit for quick games with a friend or for fans of the sport who want something fast.
How to play Smash Badminton
- The goal is to be the first player to reach 21 points with a lead of at least two.
- Move left and right with A and D, jump with W, and swing your racket with J or a mouse click.
- Each player stays on their own half of the court. You cannot cross the net.
- Hit the shuttle over the net. A shot that fails to clear the net is a fault and gives the point to your opponent.
- If the shuttle lands on the floor of your half, your opponent wins the rally.
- Every rally scores a point for its winner, whoever served.
- At 20-all, play continues until one player is two points ahead, up to a cap of 30.
- A match also ends after three and a half minutes, with the higher score winning.

Smash Badminton tips and strategy
- Jump to meet high shuttles. Contact made high and in front of you becomes a smash, which is the fastest shot in the game and the hardest to return.
- Use the drop when your opponent is standing deep. A low hit taken close to the net falls just over the tape, and a player at the back will not reach it.
- Go back to the middle of your half after every shot. From there you can cover a drop at the net and a clear to the back.
- Do not swing early. There is a short delay before you can swing again, and a mistimed swing can leave you unable to reach the shuttle.
- Mix deep clears with drops to move your opponent forwards and backwards. A player who is still running is in a poor position to smash.
Smash Badminton FAQ
How many points do you need to win?
You need 21 points and a lead of at least two. If the score reaches 20-all, the game carries on until someone is two clear. To stop a game running forever, the first player to reach 30 wins regardless of the margin.
How do you smash in this badminton game?
Jump with W and swing with J while the shuttle is high and slightly in front of you. A high contact sends the shuttle steeply downwards at top speed. A swing from the ground at a low shuttle produces a lofted clear instead.
Is this singles or doubles?
It is singles only, one player on each side of the net. You can play against a real opponent, invite a friend with a room code, or play a bot. The bot can be beaten by a well-placed smash or drop, as a human opponent can.
Do you only score when you serve?
No. The game uses rally scoring, the system used in modern competitive badminton. The winner of each rally gets a point whether or not they served, which keeps games quick and means every exchange matters.
What counts as a fault?
A shot that hits the net and does not cross it is a fault against the player who hit it. The other way to lose a rally is to let the shuttle touch the floor on your own side of the court.
