About Battle Royale

Battle royale is the last-player-standing shooter format: everyone lands with almost nothing, scavenges for gear and is slowly pushed together by a closing safe zone until one player remains. This version keeps that loop but shrinks it into a quick 2D top-down match that loads in a browser tab, so a full round takes a few minutes instead of half an hour.

Everyone spawns on a ring around the map holding a pistol with unlimited ammo. Crates are scattered everywhere, and walking over one opens it instantly. Most hold a better gun, either an SMG, rifle, shotgun or sniper, while the rest give a health pack worth 45 HP or 50 points of shield. Shields soak up damage before your health does. If a better gun runs dry you drop back to the pistol.

The storm closes in six stages, and each stage hurts more than the last, from a light 2 damage per second at the start to 22 per second in the final ring. There are no respawns, so your finishing place is your result. It suits players who want the tension of a shooter finale without a long download or a long match.

How to play Battle Royale

1. The goal is to be the last player alive out of a lobby of 2 to 24.
2. Move with WASD, aim with the mouse and click or hold to fire. You start with a pistol that never runs out of ammo.
3. Walk over a crate to open it. You get either a stronger weapon, a health pack that restores 45 HP, or 50 points of shield.
4. A crate weapon only replaces yours if it is the same tier or better. A weaker find is converted into extra ammo for the gun you already hold.
5. Watch the storm ring. After a short opening pause it shrinks toward a new circle, waits, then shrinks again, six times in total.
6. Standing outside the ring drains your shield and health every second, and the drain rises with each stage.
7. Damage hits shield first, then health. At zero health you are eliminated with no respawn and your placement is locked in.
8. The last survivor wins. If more than one player is still alive when the five-minute round clock ends, the match is a draw and survivors are ranked by eliminations.

Battle Royale tips and strategy

• Spend the first 15 seconds looting, not fighting. The opening pistol loses almost every duel against a rifle or SMG, and two or three crates usually fix that.
• Match your range to your gun. The shotgun only reaches about a third as far as the sniper, so close the distance with it and back away when you are holding the long gun.
• Move toward the next circle while the current one is still holding. Late storm stages deal enough damage to finish a full-health player in a few seconds.
• Keep strafing in a fight. Bullets travel in straight lines with a little spread, so a target moving sideways takes far fewer hits than one standing still.
• Open a crate before a fight you can see coming. A 50-point shield is effectively half a second life, and crates near the ring edge are often untouched.
• Let two enemies trade shots, then clean up the winner while their shield is gone.
