About Territory Wars

Territory Wars belongs to the family of area-capture io games, where the board itself is the score. Every player starts with a small square of coloured land on a shared 80 by 80 grid. Leave that square and you drag a trail behind you. Steer back onto your own colour and the whole shape you outlined fills in as yours, including any land that used to belong to someone else.

The catch is that a trail is fragile. If a rival drives across your line before you close the loop, you are knocked out and every tile you owned turns neutral again. Running into your own trail or the edge of the map does the same thing. You return two seconds later on a fresh starting square, but rebuilding from nothing costs precious time on a three-minute clock.

Rounds are short and readable, which makes this a good pick for a quick break or a group call. People searching for a territory war online game or a land wars game will find the familiar rules here, with a live percentage for every player so you always know who is ahead.

How to play Territory Wars

  1. The aim is to own more of the grid than anyone else when the three-minute timer ends.
  2. You begin on a 7 by 7 block of your own colour. Steer in four directions with WASD or the arrow keys. Your marker never stops moving.
  3. Driving off your land leaves a trail. Return to any tile of your own colour to close the loop.
  4. Closing a loop claims every tile inside it, plus the trail itself. Rival land caught inside the loop becomes yours.
  5. If another player crosses your trail before you close it, you are eliminated and they get the credit.
  6. Hitting your own trail or the outer border also eliminates you. You cannot reverse straight back while a trail is out.
  7. An eliminated player loses all their land to neutral and respawns after two seconds on a new starting block.
  8. When time runs out the largest area wins. A tie on area goes to whoever reached the biggest peak during the round.

Territory Wars tips and strategy

  • Take small, squarish bites early. A trail of ten tiles is exposed for under a second, while a huge loop gives every neighbour time to cut it.
  • Leave and re-enter along your own border. Loops that hug the edge of your land need the shortest trail for the area gained.
  • Hunt trails rather than land. Cutting a leader wipes their whole territory to neutral, which swings the scoreboard far more than any single loop of yours.
  • Stay away from the map border when a trail is out. The wall is lethal and it removes half of your escape routes.
  • In the last 20 seconds stop gambling. A death then leaves you with a starting square and no time to regrow.

Territory Wars FAQ

How do you capture land in Territory Wars?

Drive out of your own colour to start a trail, curve around the area you want, and steer back onto your land. Everything enclosed between the trail and your existing territory is filled in and counted as yours.

What happens when I die?

All the land you held resets to neutral and your trail disappears. Two seconds later you reappear on a fresh starting block somewhere empty, so you can keep playing, but you are rebuilding from the minimum size.

Can I steal territory from other players?

Yes. Any tile inside a loop you complete becomes yours no matter who owned it before. You can also remove a rival's entire territory at once by crossing their trail while they are outside their land.

How many players can join one match?

Between 2 and 12. Public matches are set up for eight seats with bots covering any gaps, and a private room can hold up to twelve friends on the same grid.

Does the player with the most kills win?

No. Eliminations are shown on the scoreboard but only territory decides the result. The winner is whoever owns the largest share of the grid when the clock reaches zero.

How many players do I need for Territory Wars?

Territory Wars supports 2 to 12 players. If a full table of real people isn't ready when you queue, MultiplayerHub fills the empty seats with bots instantly so the match starts without waiting.

Do I need to download anything or sign up to play Territory Wars?

No. Territory Wars runs entirely in your browser tab โ€” no app install, no account, no email required. Pick a name and you're matched within seconds.

Is Territory Wars really free?

Yes, no catch โ€” Territory Wars is ad-supported rather than pay-to-play, so there is no subscription or in-game purchase to unlock anything.

Can I play Territory Wars with a specific friend instead of strangers?

Create a private room from the Territory Wars page to get a shareable room code, or enter a code a friend already sent you to jump straight into their table.
