About Block Blitz

Block Blitz is a head-to-head take on the classic falling block puzzle. Each player has their own well, ten columns wide and twenty rows tall, and seven four-square shapes called tetrominoes drop into it one at a time. Fill a row from wall to wall and it disappears. Let the stack reach the top and you are out.

What makes it a battle is garbage. Clearing two rows at once sends one junk row to every opponent, three rows send two, and a four-row clear sends four. Junk rows rise from the bottom of the target well with a single gap in them. Incoming junk waits in a queue, and you can cancel it by making a multi-row clear of your own before your next piece locks without clearing.

The version here includes the features regular players expect: a hold slot, a three-piece preview, a ghost outline showing where the piece will land, wall kicks, and a seven-piece bag so you never wait long for the straight piece. Gravity speeds up every twelve seconds, which keeps matches to a few minutes. It suits anyone who likes puzzle games with real pressure.

How to play Block Blitz

1. Survive longer than the other players. In solo play, clear as many lines and score as many points as you can.
2. Move the falling piece with the left and right arrows, rotate with up, soft drop with down and hard drop with space.
3. Press C to hold the current piece and bring back the one you stored. You can hold once per piece.
4. A completely filled row clears. One row scores 100, two 300, three 500 and four 800, with a growing bonus for clears on consecutive pieces.
5. Clearing two, three or four rows together sends one, two or four garbage rows to every opponent still playing.
6. Garbage aimed at you is queued. A multi-row clear cancels queued rows first, and whatever is left rises into your well the next time a piece locks without clearing anything.
7. Pieces fall faster as the match goes on. If a new piece has no room to appear, your well is finished.
8. The last well standing wins. If the five-minute limit arrives first, surviving players are ranked by lines cleared, then score.

Block Blitz tips and strategy

• Keep one edge column empty and stack the other nine flat. Dropping the straight piece into that gap gives a four-row clear, the only clear that sends four junk rows.
• Singles send nothing. When junk is queued against you, a double or better is what cancels it, so avoid wasting your stack on one-row clears.
• Junk rows arrive with their gaps lined up in one column per batch. Dig straight down that column with a vertical piece to clear several at once.
• Use hold as a parking space for the straight piece rather than as a panic button. Swapping it in at the right moment is worth far more than saving one awkward placement.
• Check the ghost outline before a hard drop. Hard drops lock instantly, and a misplaced piece that leaves a covered hole costs several turns to repair.
• Chain clears on back-to-back pieces. Each consecutive clear adds 20 percent to the points for the next one.
